March from Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry - I was an art History Major back in the day so I gotta use what I learned somewhere. :P
by Stephanie Stassi on March 10, 2021
It's a new month and a new season is about to dawn. This past Sunday "Van Alpha" had its debut at Artisan Maker's Mainline Market and it was a quite a bit of fun even though it was cold and blustery thanks to winter's last gasps. However, now that the weather is warming up there are even more events about to "spring" up - so I created a Calendar on the website so all y'all can keep track of where the van is headed!
As for events there are two left this month, our second Artisan Maker's Market at Mainline Brewery on March 21st and a Hooks & Hops appearance at Intermission Beer Co. on March 26th! Starting April 10th, I will also be attending Artisan Maker's Market at Eat 66 every other Saturday.
Here are some other fun things to know:
For the rest of this month Borstet Alpakka, Techno, and Woolstok 150g will be 20% off in-person and online to make room for Spring!
All Organized Chaos Yarn Bases are now $28.
- At all in-person events there will be "Intro to Knit" kits for sale! They are $20 each and contain 3 balls of Fritidsgarn, a pair of size 10.5 needles, a darning needle, and a 10 page instruction booklet for The Stashi Yarn Van's "Pleasurably Ribbed" scarf!
There will be bumper stickers available by the end of the week- so keep on the lookout for those!
I am currently working on intro to knit video tutorials to go along with the "Pleasurably Ribbed" scarf instructions which will be out this Saturday!
This Week’s Featured Yarn
Sandes Garn Fritidsgarn
Fritidsgarn translates to "Leisure Yarn" in English and I have to admit- I have become quite smitten with it's ease. It's a bulky weight yarn that is 100% Norweigian Wool and each ball comes at 76.5 yards for $5.50. It may feel a bit woolly at first- but it softens up with use and after being blocked. It is wonderful for a wide array of projects from garments to home decor (it even felts up quite nicely)!
One great project is Sandes Garn's free Poncho Design -which I have in English for those who purchase yarn to complete this project! It uses Fritidsgarn held tandem with Tynn Silk Mohair (which we also carry) to create a luxuriously warm fabric - and it kept me quite warm this windy Sunday! It takes 8-9 balls of Fritidsgarn and 2-3 balls of Tynn Silk Mohair.
Fritidsgarn also makes great mittens! The Marius Mittens is another free pattern from Sandes Garn (the Marius colorwork pattern is also iconic for them and can be seen across a wide array of garments)! It takes 4 balls of Fritidsgarn total: 2 balls in the main color and 1 ball each in 2 contrasting colors. You can also felt up these mittens for extra warmth! I also have this pattern in English and can send it to you free with the purchase of the yarn required for the project.
Last but not least, who doesn't like a cozy chic cardigan! This bulky weight yarn would be fantastic for Elizabeth Smith's Ramona Cardigan! This beauty would take 11-18 balls depending on the size.
That's All Folks!
Now a hint of the Bumper Sticker... You may have seen it on Instagram or Facebook today without realizing it. ;P
